What Is “Duress Mode”

Duress mode (coercion mode / “panic mode”) is a feature that allows a user to protect their assets if they are forced to reveal their password or private key.

How it works:
The user sets up a special password or PIN in advance for duress mode.
If an attacker forces the user to enter a password:
The wallet opens a fake wallet with a limited balance or with preconfigured “decoy” data.
Real funds remain stored securely and are not accessible.
The user can “show” the attacker a functional interface without exposing their actual assets.

How it works in practice

Setup: in the wallet’s security section, the user specifies:
the normal access password,
the duress-mode password,
a fake balance (optional).
Use: under coercion, the user enters the duress password.

Result: the wallet displays a “safe” view with a small balance; all transactions appear legitimate, but the real assets stay hidden.

Purpose of the feature

Protection under physical coercion: for example, if someone threatens you and demands access to your wallet.
Minimizing theft risk: attackers gain access only to the fake wallet.
Peace of mind: the user can safely give “access” without revealing real funds.

Important Notes

Duress mode must be configured in advance, otherwise it will not work.
It does not protect against digital attacks or hacking — only against physical coercion or threats.
The fake wallet should be set up thoughtfully so that it looks convincing.
